Hi, I'm hoping someone can recommend a product to cover and smooth out this chasing that the plumber has done. She's filled the hole but I'm wondering how to best finish it. Does it need a plaster over the top before painting it? Thanks. Jo
Hi @jottle,
First, are you planning to tile any of this area, or will it become a splashback? If you are tiling, there’s no need to fill and smooth over the chasing as tiles can be glued directly over the current surface since it’s reasonably smooth.
For exposed areas that won’t be tiled, it’s a good idea to do a bit of finishing. You can use a plaster skim coat to fill in the chasing and any porous areas of the cement. Once the filler has dried, sand it smooth so it blends into the surrounding wall. Then, apply a couple of coats of paint. Stippling lightly while painting can help match the texture of the rest of the wall, giving a neat, uniform finish.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
