How to fix damp internal wall?

Hi Eric,

Damp came through the shower wall into the dinning wall ground level, and rose up about 1/2 m, which has bean fixed by a damp proof person about three months ago in the shower.

I have now scraped off the all the loose paint, this is about 1m x 500mm appx.

When and what do I use to do next please.

By the way thanks for the advice you gave me regard lime stone wall, all fixed.

On the condition that the wall is still flat, level and has no physical damage to its surface, the next step is to sand it down. I suggest sanding down the entire wall so that you will have a uniform finish. Painting only the damaged section will often be seen as a paint patch. The only way you could possibly get away with it is if you can colour match the paint perfectly. But even then the new painted section will stand out.

In order to hide the patch, I recommend painting the entire wall so that it blends in with the rest of the walls in that section of your house. I suggest using a primer such as the Dulux 1Step Prep Primer, Sealer & Undercoat 4L and for the topcoat the Dulux 4L Vivid White Low Sheen Wash&Wear Interior Paint tinted in your preferred colour.

Hi Eric,

I forgot to mention that some parts of the wall next to the skirting board requires filling, what do you recommend please.

Hello @Richard44 

If the damage is minimal, I suggest using UNi-PRO 500g Multi Purpose Interior Filler - 500g. It does come in a larger quantity should you need more than 500g. For larger areas that need more filler you can also use the Gyprock CSR 2.25kg Less Mess Multi-Purpose Joint Compound.
