Hello,
can you recommend a replacement cistern/seat for our toilet please?
The existing screws seem to be 405mm apart, and the width of the existing cistern shell in the photo is 450mm from widest side to widest side.
Is this easy enough yourself?
thanks!
Hi @ElaineBenes,
Thank you for your question.
While some homeowners may be able to replace a toilet cistern themselves, it's generally recommended to hire a licensed plumber for the job. This is because plumbing work, including cistern replacement, is regulated, and improper installation can lead to leaks or other issues.
I'd suggest using this Estilo White Replacement Cistern With Seat. Check out the Installation Instructions to see what is involved. Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to use the exact same screw locations, however it is not too hard to move them.
The process to remove the old cistern involves turning off the water supply, draining the cistern, disconnecting the flush pipe and inlet hose and then removing the cistern.
Once the old cistern is removed, you will hang the new cistern level against the wall using the provided hardware, cut the flush pipe to length and install, then cut the link pipe cover to size and install alongside the toilet seat.
If you have a look on YouTube there are examples of the process that will better show what is involved. I would suggest having a watch and seeing what you think and whether you are confident. If not, then it is likely worth contacting a plumber for their assistance.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
@JacobZ thank you Jacob. I will upload a photo when I attempt this over the coming weeks of the finished product. I have every confidence in myself so I will watch all the videos I can and then give it a crack!
