How to stop shower water pressure dropping?

Hi all,

When I turn on the hot water tap in the shower, water comes out normally but after around 10 seconds the pressure starts dropping dramatically, to the point that it will slow to a trickle after another 10 seconds or so. If I then turn on the cold tap I can turn up the hot water tap to the point that I can have a comfortable shower with good water pressure, but you can feel the hot water "dropping out" over the course of the shower so that you need to continue turning up the hot water or turning down the cold water.

It seems odd that the hot water pressure will drop to a trickle when it's the only tap turned on, but if you have both taps on it doesn't drop out entirely at the same rate leaving only cold water, if that makes sense. Any suggestions would be welcome! Google hasn't been much help as I'm not sure how to word the question in a search engine friendly way.

Re: How can I figure out why my shower water pressure drops?

Hello @mileso

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your showers water pressure.

It is quite difficult to pinpoint exactly where the fault is occurring as there are quite a few possibilities. The fault could lie in one of the valves that's attached to your water tank, it could be the water tank itself or there might be a blockage that occurs intermittently inside the pipework. In this particular instance, I suggest engaging the services of a registered plumber as they will be able to conduct tests on your current plumbing set up and track down the source of the blockage. I feel that this would be the best course of action as the plumber would have the tools and experience to trouble shoot your current dilemma in a short amount of time.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
