Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

Hello am looking to install laundry cabinets similar to the below design to hide laundry appliances. Would like to achieve cabinets in white / mint green, already have a stone benchtop to place on top. Does bunnings have flat pack options?

Re: Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

Hello @cvasin

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thank you for joining us and sharing your question about laundry cabinets.

The Kaboodle base cabinet systems have a standard depth of 580mm with the doors on. Without the doors, the cabinets are 560mm deep. You can use a Kaboodle 35L Base Mount Laundry Hamper in each of the 450 cabinets. The cabinet widths will fit your current measurements. Notice that I've included pantry end panels and a base end panel in your lineup. You will have to take this into consideration as they are not included in your plan. Each panel is 18mm thick.

I was not sure if you wanted wall cabinets so I have left them off your current sketch. However, if you wish to see them with the wall cabinets, please let me know. Have a look at the drawing and tell me what you think.

Re: Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

Hi Eric,

That looks great everything is perfect aside from: I wanted to hide the appliances and have a door to cover the washing machine and dryer. Its located in an open space and not in a contained laundry room.

Will you be able to provide a quote once the doors are added to the left unit?

Let me know the best way to contact you for a chat if possible.

Kind Regards,

Re: Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

Hello @cvasin (Christina)

I'm glad my proposed layout works for you. For you to place doors in front of your washing machine, a timber frame must be built around it. The frame will serve as mounting points for the door's hinges. The frame should have enough space that you can pull the machines out without having to disassemble the enclosure. I will draw a proposed frame to give your installer/builder an idea of how to build it. Please allow me some time to draw the frame, I will post it as soon as I finish it.

When the frame is built you can then order multipurpose panels (MPP) to the size that you need. These panels will serve as the doors for your washing machine enclosure. I recommend going to your local store and speak to the In-Store Kitchen Specialist who can quote the entire package for you, including installation. Please note that the store can only provide materials for your washing machine frame, you'll have to organize your installer/builder to put the frame together.

Here is the list of cabinets I used for your laundry:

Re: Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

Hi Eric,

Thank you. Look forward to hearing back in regards to stacker unit.

Do you need to buy the door hinges separately to assemble the cabinet doors?

Also are the kaboodle items you have listed off the shelf at any bunnings or do you need to order it?

Regards,

Christina Vasin.

Re: Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

Hello @cvasin (Christina)

My apologies I forgot to include the hinges in your list. You will need 8X Kaboodle Standard Door Hinge - 1 Pair. All the cabinets I mentioned are available at the store. Except for the custom pantry that I mentioned in my last post.

The sketch I've placed below is only a suggestion, and your builder might have a more efficient way of making a frame. The sizes indicated are based on the size of the washing machine which is 600mm wide x 600mm deep and 860mm high. If your washing machine or dryer is bigger or needs more space, please adjust the sizes accordingly. The side panels are made of MDF and painted in high gloss paint to closely match your gloss white doors. The timber frame inside is made of ordinary pine panels.

Please note that when you order the MPP ( Multi-Purpose Panels ) for your washing machine cabinet doors, they will not have any hinge holes on them. They must be drilled on-site by the builder using a Hafele Hinge Mounting Kit. I recommend using Zenith 20mm Zinc Plated Angle Bracket to secure the side panel to the wall and floor. Please have a look at the drawings and tell me what you think.

If need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

Eric

It’s difficult getting a cabinet maker. Was wondering if you could provide an easier installation with kaboodle for something similar to the below. I’m happy to eliminate sink now and just have cabinets, laundry and dryer all hidden behind doors.

thank you so much

Re: Looking to add laundry cabinets to hide laundry appliances

HI @cvasin

I've re-drawn your layout based on your new sketch. Please note the following.

  • The cabinets will need to be mounted with a gap at the back. You can use timber and screws to secure the cabinet to the wall. The gap is necessary so that when you put your doors on at the front, they will not hit the washing machine or dryer.
  • You can lessen the gap but only to the point where the front doors do not hit the machines.
  • It will be necessary to use a custom benchtop for this project. The standard 600mm deep benchtops will not work with this design.
  • The front doors for the washing machine and dryer will need to be specially ordered as a custom width.
  • A timber mounting piece will need to be installed at the side of the cabinet so that you will have a mounting point for the large washing machine doors.
  • Your MDF base-end finishing panels will need to be custom cut to size.

Here is the cabinet list.

Please remember that the sizes indicated are for reference only, please adjust the distances according to your needs. Have look at the drawings and if you have any questions, please let me know.
