What paint to use for shower makeover?

Hi All, have been looking at refreshing the bathroom with some new colours and paint.

I  going to update the shower tiles using the Rust-Oleum Tile Transformations Tile Coating System I have seen recommended on here but was wondering if the Epoxy Enamel spray is what is recommended for the shower frame. It's powder coated and not damaged or if I needed to look at something else?

Also want to update the floor tiles with a coat of paint - do I use the tile coasting system or is something there something else that others would recommend to do this?

Thanks so much in advance for the tips and guidance 🙂

Re: What paint to use for shower makeover?

Hi @AashaS,

A very warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. We're looking forward to seeing how you can transform your bathroom. Perhaps you might like to share some "before" photos with the community so they can see what you are working with.

I'm sure our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. expert @EricL will be more than happy to recommend what paint to use on the shower frame. But as above, it will probably help him if you can please share a photo or two. Let me also tag paint specialist @Simon to see if he can share his thoughts before Eric returns to the site tomorrow.

Regarding the floor tiles, this is a question that has popped up on the community in the past and the recommendation is always the same: that there is no paint that is suitable for this purpose. You would need to consider replacing the tiles instead, or perhaps laying new flooring over them. Here is a couple of discussions for your reference:

Hope that helps,

Jason

Hi Jason, thanks so much for the response! In the early stages of planning so any and all advice is do helpful. I have included a couple of pictures of the shower and bath tiles that I am wanting to update....

Sounds like the floor will take some more research 😉

Hopinh to use the Rust-Oleum Tile Transformations Tile Coating System on the shower and bath wall areas.

Re: What paint to use for shower makeover?

Hello @AashaS

Thank you so much for joining us and sharing your shower makeover project.

It's great that you've received fantastic advice from @Jason. There are currently three brands of tile paint available in the store. They are the Dulux Renovation RangeWhite Knight Tile And Laminate Paint, and Rust-Oleum Tile Transformations Coating System. These are all excellent tile painting systems. However, as Jason has mentioned none of them are suitable for in-shower use. Please note that if you do use it inside the shower, it will not be covered under the paint's warranty.

Painting your powder-coated shower frame is like painting the frame of your aluminum window. The area must be prepared, a primer must be used before you paint your first base coat on. I recommend exploring the option of tiling over the existing tiles in the shower area. This will bring your shower area in line with the newly painted tiles. This looks like a fantastic project in the making, any updates on your progress while you renovate would be much appreciated.

Re: What paint to use for shower makeover?

@EricL @Jason thanks so much for the advice! Will look into tiling over the shower and starting with the window frame and a fresh coat of paint for the walls!

Will post some updates as I progress and I'm sure ask lots more questions 😃
