This flip-top mobile tool stand saves space in the workshop by pivoting between the tool being used and the one stored away.

The project

I’ve been running out of space in my garage/workshop so I built a couple of mobile stands to house our Ryobi tools.

This flip-top tool stand holds our belt sander and thicknesser while the folding-wing mitre table is for my Ryobi Dual Bevel Mitre Saw. Super happy with how they both work.

The flip-top mechanism pivots on a piece of 20mm galvanised pipe housed between two side supports. It locks in using eyebolts and hex head bolts.

More project inspiration

Bunnings Workshop member DonGreen created this brilliant saw bench with a foldable top, which provides both work surfaces and storage for both of his power saws.

Hi Hazesnow, love the Fliptop tool stand. Any chance of a plan available anywhere ?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @MartinC. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about this amazing project.

Let me mention @hazesnow, so that they are alerted to your comment. Hopefully, they'll be able to provide us with a bit more information on their project. In the meantime, I've put together some rendering of how I believe they've built the unit. It should be helpful in understanding how the table was assembled.

I'm really looking forward to following along with your project. Please let me know if you have any questions.

@MartinC this is the plan I used!
not sure if the link will work but the guy in utube is called Fixthisbuildthat.

Kind of a Big Deal

Very clever - well done! 👍

Irrational feeling I guess, but my concern would be the bolts holding the thicknesser fail. From memory the Bunnings DeWalt is over $1,000 and not that I have one - but with my luck these days...I can imagine a 'bang' as it falls in the middle of the night.

@Noyade

I’ve not had any issues with thicknesser coming loose and I swap them around all the time! 🤗

Kind of a Big Deal

Good to know - again, well done! 👍

Just on the subject of 'flipping'...

A 1971 Elu flip-able drop/table saw. I think Elu (German) is now part of Black and Decker?

Powered by a 1000W induction motor - turned on, all you hear is a high pitched whistling noise.

Many bits and pieces missing - no longer a 'safe' saw in drop mode. Blade is 10".

The on/off switch is on the side.
