A Viking theme and the use of recycled materials adds character to this rustic outdoor entertaining space.

The project

After returning from travelling abroad, I moved to a small town in central NSW. The house hadn't been lived in for over six months and needed a lot of work. The biggest shock moving from western Sydney was that the nearest Bunnings is almost two hours away. I don't usually make detailed plans, but not being able to pop into Bunnings meant that I had to change my ways.

I found a lot of free timber online. The wall of the barbecue area is old scaffolding boards, and the outside of the barbecue area was made using recycled pallets. The iron sheets were already in the backyard here.

The fibre cement sheeting around the seating area wasn't great, so I made a treated Pine frame and covered it in with fence palings.

I have a couple of solar panels and batteries for camping and found a 12v bluetooth amplifier. I put a strip of Arlec 12v puck lights over the barbecue and over the table. I also installed a water feature, fairy lights and an amp for music or podcasts.

My trip to Iceland got me into Vikings, so I used pallets to make a shield and a dragon throne.

I made the dragon with a scroll saw and a Dremel, and then used pyrography tools to add colour.

I made the fire pit using retaining wall blocks and put sand and scoria at the bottom.

Hello @glenmore

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thank you for joining the discussion.

It's great to hear that @sideshowmatt's project has inspired you. I personally like the Viking elements in the entertainment area. Will you be attempting a similar project in your own home? Or will you be designing it with your own theme? If you ever decide to give this project a go, please make sure to send us an update. I'm sure our members would be keen to see what your entertainment area theme will be.

Thanks for the welcome @EricL !

Planning a project of a built-in L-shaped daybed / sofa for my Gin Palace.

Seeing the framing structure of @sideshowmatt Outdoor entertainment area has given some ideas for the planning of it.
Planning on putting up some photos of previous projects soon!
