Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Does this service have a cost?

Bunnings stores may charge a small fee for timber cutting. The price is:

  • Timber docking - First two cuts are free, and 50 cents per additional cut

  • Panels and sheeting - First cut is free and $1 per additional cut.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Re: In House cutting service

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Ramazees. It's great to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our cutting service.

I apologise for the delay in my reply.

Those types of cuts are standard for our panel saws, and our team will be more than happy to make them for you. Just bear in mind that the saw blade is around 3mm thick, so you can't get 4 x 600mm strips off an exactly 2400mm long board. In total, three cuts will remove 9mm, so you could get four 597.75mm boards or thereabouts. However, get the team member to check the exact length as you might find the board is actually a little over 2400 long, allowing you to cut the full 600mm strips.

We'll be looking forward to hearing more about your project. Please feel free to reach out anytime you need help or have something to share with the community.

Re: Round table top

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @napiers. It's great to see @r23on has offered a helpful suggestion.

Check out these Specrite 400mm Round Timber Panels. They are only 3cm larger than your desired size.

Let me know if those panels would be suitable. If not, I trust we can guide you on cutting your own.

Re: Does Bunnings cut timber to size?

Hello @devoidone

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's great to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about cutting timber at Bunnings.

It all depends on the type of timber and the quantity you're having cut. If you're after basic cuts that are not critical in size the store will cut it for you. But if you're after a large amount of cuts the store might not be able to do it due to time constraints.

I suggest calling your local store where you placed your online order and speaking to a trade desk team member to ask about cutting your order. Explain to them how much of your order needs to be cut. If your request is within the cutting guidelines of the store they'll cut your timber order. Please note that there'll be a cutting charge for the service.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Timber cutting service

What is the maximum timber thickness that the cutting service will 'take on'. I am wanting to purchase H4 treated pine sleepers (75mm) and the Joondalup store have said they can't do it.

Re: Timber cutting service

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @petemorgz. It's great to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our cutting service.

I apologise that you couldn't get your 75mm thick treated Pine sleepers cut. There appears to have been a bit of a miscommunication on our end. We can cut those for you, and I have confirmed this with an experienced Timber Yard team member and the Builders hardware Coordinator Matt. When you're in-store next, please ask to speak with Matt if you continue to experience issues.

What we can't do is cut hardwood sleepers as they are too taxing on our machines.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Will Bunnings mitre corners for a picture frame?

Hi, I would like to make a floating frame for a 12x16 canvas. If I buy the moulding from Bunnings are they able to cut the mitre corners for me.

Re: picture framing

Hello @MissWendy1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful o have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about building a floating frame.

I'm sorry but the saws at the store are too rough and will not be able to cut a mitre join for you. I suggest considering getting a Craftright Mitre Box And Saw Set. This is an all in one set that's very handy and will let you make as many mitre cuts as you want. To help you with your assembly, I recommend getting a Trojan 75mm Mitre & Corner Clamp to help keep the pieces together when you start assembling them.

I recommend leaving a uniform gap all around your picture and the frame you are about to build, you can create that floating frame effect that you're after.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to make a D.I.Y. picture frame.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
