The Bunnings Workshop community can help with your home improvement projects.
Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.
Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.
What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?
Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.
What size cuts can be made and how much does it cost?
Cuts to timber and panels boards are rounded up to 100mm increments. We are unable to do precision cuts. The minimum length of cut timber is 600mm.
Customers are required to purchase any remaining offcuts measuring less than 1800mm.
Multiple timber cuts may incur a charge of $1 per cut.
Is this service available at my local Bunnings?
You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:
Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?
Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.
When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?
Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.
What if I want to do the cutting at home?
Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:
What if I can't get my timber home?
We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.
As always, our helpful members are ready to assist with any questions you have on completing precision cuts for your D.I.Y. projects at home.
Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

I’m planning to buy chrome curtain rail from Bunnings for my wardrobe and need the 1200mm rail cut down to fit.
Just moved to an apartment and gave away all my tools thinking I’d never need them again so don’t have a hacksaw or angle grinder to do the cut.
Can the Cut Shop help me?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @michaelb001. It's Fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about cutting a curtain rail.
Sorry, but unfortunately, the cut shop isn’t able to cut metal items like chrome curtain rails as their service is limited to timber. It would still be worth asking one of our team members in-store if someone might be able to assist you with the cut, as they may have a hacksaw handy.
Otherwise, I’d suggest picking up a Trojan 300mm Tubular Hack Saw. It’s a good choice over the cheaper saws because it comes with a blade that’s better suited to cutting through metal like a chrome rail, making the job much easier.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanhs for the reply Mitchell.
I’ll go down the hacksaw route but I’m concerned about a straight cut as I don’t have a jig or anything to keep me on track.
I’ll give it a go though.
Depending on the bracket you're using, @michaelb001, there's typically a bit of leeway as the cut end is often covered. I like to run some masking tape around the tube, which gives you a line to cut to. Alternatively, you could pick up one of these flyscreen mitre boxes, which will help you keep on track.

Hi @michaelb001
I find tube/pipe cutters are great for cutting curtain rods, no wrestling with keeping the rod still while sawing into it. Just take it nice and slow, rotate around the rod, tighten the blade a little, rotate again, tighten again and so on, takes very little time and effort. 😊 Not sure if your store has one in their cutshop, my store does but they're quite cheap to buy anyway.
Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion. I had also thought of that, but the profile of the rail is oval not round so the pipe cutters would not work in this case.
Hack saw is the best solution I think.
Is there a limit to the cuts allowed on panel boards? I visited the cut shop today and was told that only 2 cuts to each panel can be made — Of course I understand there should be a reasonable limit to this service but I was purchasing a 2400 x 1200mm panel and needed more than 2 cuts considering it’s such a large panel
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Lizzy_L. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about our cutting services.
I'm not aware of any policy regarding the number of cuts, though there is a charge for multiple cuts. There could be site-specific limitations that I am not aware of. I would suggest that in the future, if you require additional cuts, ask to speak with a manager about your requirements. I trust they'll do their best to accommodate.
I do apologise for the inconvenience. Our members would be happy to provide guidance on making those additional cuts yourself at home. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Hi team, We're looking to upgrade our space with SpecRite Oak Timber Acoustic Panels.
Wondering if bunnings offers cutting service for this? we just need to reduce the length. We have had cutting done before at bunnings but not sure about this one in particular. We will need 6 cuts in total (6 panels)
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @gaggybhan. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about acoustic panels.
As this isn’t just a straight timber panel, unfortunately we’re not able to cut the SpecRite Oak Timber Acoustic Panels on our saws in store due to the felt backing and the nature of the panel. The good news is they definitely can be cut at home. You can use either a fine-toothed hand saw or a circular saw to trim them to the length you need. I’ve included the manufacturer’s cutting specifications below to help you get the best result.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
