Hi All i have a small Ozito Belt Sander BSV-9000 and would like to replace the small drive gear nearly worn through.

Was wondering if anyone has had any luck with tracking down this part so i can replace it, sander still works fine.

Have attached some images of the drive gear so you can see what i'm talking about.

Re: How to replace drive gear of Ozito belt sander?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Rodney2. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about spare parts.

Have you spoken with the Special Orders team at your local Bunnings store? Take the sander’s model number, the parts diagram and the specific part number for the worn drive gear. The team can then contact the Ozito spare parts department and confirm whether the gear is still available. If it is, they can place an order for you. If it isn’t, they’ll be able to advise you on the next options.

On a side note, those gear teeth look like they were designed like that to capture the bottom of a ribbed belt rather than worn down. However, it could just be an unusual wear pattern. Could you show us the belt?

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Hi @Rodney2

Thats an amazing amount of wear on those teeth even for a DIY model considering the drive-belt is toothed rubber. The tensioning gear looks pretty good still. I take it that even with a new belt it's slipping badly?

Re: How to replace drive gear of Ozito belt sander?

Hi Mitchell,

Belt broke ages ago and have binned it since.

Just thought it might be a good option to replace the small drive gear at the same time.

I have already contacted Ozito Australia and they have told me that small gear isn't available and they dont have any service agents in Oz.

I was hoping they might put me onto the people that build the unit and reach out to the actual supplier that make that small drive gear and make me another.

Thought i would reach out to you guy;s and your customers and see if anyone else has had a similar issue and fixed the problem.

Re: How to replace drive gear of Ozito belt sander?

Hi @Rodney2,

RE: @MitchellMc's comment: Those gear teeth look like they were designed like that...

I am thinking the drive gear is fine and does not need replacing.

Some drive belts have a belt convex tooth profile to match the concave gear wheel profile.

I have come across belt drive hand tools where there is a mismatch (maybe that sander), belts with a square profile and more likely to slip.

Assuming correct belt tension during operation does the sander labor and is there excessive belt slip with any signs of overheating.

With the belt removed check all the components that are supposed spin/turn do so without any binding/dragging.

Also check that the motor spins freely.

Oh... check the belt.

Cheers

Re: How to replace drive gear of Ozito belt sander?

Hi @Rodney2

One option that comes to mind is to call a local machine shop in your area and try to find out if they can duplicate the gear for you. Another option is to call a 3D printing shop and see if they do high strength steel prints.

Let me tag @Noyade for his thoughts on this particular topic.

Re: How to replace drive gear of Ozito belt sander?

Hi Eric,

Wouldn't be a bad option to try a 3D printing version, i might give that a go if there is anyone out that can duplicate it.

And if no good with them will try a machine shop as well. Thinking the price will be more expensive than a new machine but worth a try.

Re: How to replace drive gear of Ozito belt sander?

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the reply, got a new belt from someone on Ebay seemed to know exactly what belt was required.

Haven't fitted the new belt as yet, just trying to get the drive gear sorted first.

But i will check the belt tension etc, and make sure the sander isn't labouring too much. It;s my dads sander so might need a good clean in all areas.

He gave it to his sons to fix if you get my drift.

Interesting that it is called a Timing Belt.

"Let me tag @Noyade for his thoughts on this particular topic."

Not sure why @EricL, but I appreciate the thought. 😊

To me @Rodney2 the cog is cast to that shape for improved traction - just a theory though. Visiting a place like BSC could confirm/deny that theory.

Carbon dating - your machine would only be around 10 years old?

This is the 'blue' Ozito belt sander from around 25 years ago (I think) when Bunnings was BBC/Hardware House.

The grip is not the best - hence maybe why the design was changed?

Just get the new belt and try it out.

Cheers.
