What to use when 2 part epoxy fails

What to use when 2 part epoxy fails

I need to glue some nuts to a base plate but 2 part epoxy has failed twice. Any ideas?

To explain, I am a renter, so I can't wall mount my TV. To get around this problem I've used a monitor arm attached to a desk. The mounting plate for a monitor is smaller than the one for the TV, so I need to join them together. However, as the mounting plate sits flush on the back of the TV, the nuts must stit on top of it, hence the need to glue them.

Loctite Easy Repair worked fine at first, but as the TV needs to be moved into position and then folded back against the wall when not in use, it has failed twice now. I've roughed up the surfaces before glueing, and I'm using a nut with a relatively large surface area.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

Hi @LynnieLightfoot,

What about Root Nuts.

Drill the correct size holes, insert a nut and use a ball peen hammer to turn over chamfered edge.

As requested please post some photos.

Hi @LynnieLightfoot

I wouldn't be replying on any glue/adhesive to hold the weight of a TV and articulating arm scenario. But @AlanM52 and @Noyade have already requested, photos will help being able to find a possible solution for you.

Re: What to use when 2 part epoxy fails

Hi @LynnieLightfoot,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

Like the others, I would be looking for another solution if the glue is taking the weight of a TV. I would also like to see the situation so we can look at a solution.

Let me know if you need a hand uploading images. I am happy to assist if required.

Jacob

Re: What to use when 2 part epoxy fails

G'day @LynnieLightfoot

The Root Nuts that @AlanM52 mentioned look interesting.

But to my eyes there seems to be shadow in the television plate holes = a slight cavity?

Do you think there is room for the heads of countersunk bolts?

I was thinking of reversing your process - put the bolts the other way.

Making sure the bolts are the correct length or cut as required.

This is 2 mm steel plate with a very small countersink drilled.

Very little head showing - some of your epoxy. Allow to dry.

Bolt your telly plate back on.

The four projecting bolts should now connect to the monitor.

The dried epoxy should now allow you to tighten the four nuts.
