Advice on caring for buffalo lawn?

282B3435-3FA0-48CD-AE41-723F2E7D94E0.jpeg

Hi there.

Sir water buffalo grass patches were installed by a landscaper in June this year. The grass colour seems yellow and is attracting lots of weeds at the moment.

What fertiliser and weed-killer do you suggest I could use (has to be pet friendly pls)?

1 of the pics shows a hole in the lawn , dug by my dog. What’s the best way to patch it.

If there’s any other tips you have to help me revive the lawn, I appreciate your advice. Thx

Re: need some advice on lawn pls

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @mel-reservoir. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for the question about your Buffalo lawn.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that lawn looks relatively devoid of any signs of life. Buffalo can tend to brown off a little during the colder months, but not to that extreme. I'd hazard a guess that due to it being laid in June, it never was able to establish and died off. Grass goes dormant in the cooler months and doesn't particularly like to be laid then, and it certainly won't establish until it warms up. We only sell grass in Spring and Summer partly for this reason.

I'd hold off on removing the weeds until you find out if the grass is still alive. If it were, I'd expect to have seen green growth by now. Seasol EarthCare 3L Organic Weedkiller will remove the weeds, and Seasol 2L Buffalo Lawn Fertiliser - Twin Pack would be a suitable fertilizer. Both are pet safe, but keep your dog off the area until they have dried.

You can fill the holes with top dressing soil.

If this is the only area the dog can go to the toilet, there's a good chance that the urine has burnt the lawn. However, I would have expected that some grass would still have survived.

You should find this guide useful: How to care for buffalo lawn.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
