Hey team! I'm wanting to install a new timber fence down one side of the boundary at our house. We currently have a horrid wire fence about waist height. I have spoken to a few fencing specialists and they have suggested leaving the existing steel posts in and sleeve timber posts over the top, as they are already concreted in and solid. Anyone tried this before? I assume you have to pour some grout in the sleeves to secure them onto the existing steel posts? Looking for help/suggestions/recommendations.
Cheers!
G'day @Mikey29
For me, regards a fence, the less wood the better.
I'd be measuring the pipe diameter and going to a steel merchant and finding the perfect 'telescoping' fit for square tube.
Weld pre-drilled brackets wherever you want for the railings.
I think once you sort out the first section, it will all stabilise by weight and railing anchorage - therefore not requiring the round and square to be attached.
If that makes sense.
Unless Superman lands in your backyard and lifts the entire fence off the poles.
Just an overcast Sunday thought.
Cheers.
Hey Noyade,
Thanks for that, mate.
I'm actually quite liking your suggestion of square tubing over the existing poles, and also less timber. I'm now thinking steel posts and the rest in timber, that way the posts are adequately anchored and the rest is easy.
Appreciate the message mate!
