How to fix broken freezer?

Not sure if this is too technical but thought I might pop it on here just in case it’s a quick fix. I got the freezer second hand but when I plug it in it isn’t cooling down - I have noticed that the cord to the thermostat isn’t connected at the other end, where would I connect this to?

Re: How to fix broken freezer?

Hi @hannah4,

I’m not entirely sure what that cord coming out of the thermostat unit is, but it’s possibly a temperature probe enclosed in a vinyl tube to detect the temperature inside the freezer. It does look a bit unusual, and it's not something I've seen on newer freezers. It doesn’t appear to have a terminal that would need to be plugged in.

The first thing to check is whether the freezer has power and if the compressor is turning on at all — when you turn the thermostat, do you hear the motor start or any clicking sounds? If the freezer isn’t responding at all, it’s likely something more technical that would need an appliance technician to inspect. It’s possible that something was dislodged during transport, but beyond basic checks like confirming power and compressor operation, there’s not much you can safely troubleshoot yourself.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
