How to install Kaboodle hinge fixings for doors and cabinets?

Hi there,

I'm taking an unorthodox approach to kaboodle wall cabinets and using them as base cabinets in a narrow under stairs storage area.

I'm currently fixing the doors to the cabinets and noticed it says when adjusted, to then secure them with extra screws into the additional holes on the cabinet hinge plate.

Should I just be drilling a small pilot hole and using the self tapping screw provided or should I be drilling a bigger hole to accommodate the plastic lugs they provide, driving a lug in and screwing into that?

Hello @Perry2

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about kaboodle hinge fixings.

Before drilling, please make sure that you have enough plastic plugs to cover the number of screws that you have. I propose using the plastic plugs as this is the provided method of fixing the hinges to the cabinetry. This means that it has been tested and this type of fixing will provide a solid anchor for the hinges.

Thanks Eric,  should I be taking the plate back off or just drilling through using the plate as a guide.  I noticed the hole in the plate is a mm or so smaller than the pre drilled holes with the lug.

I think taking off the plate to do separately will mean I will have to adjust every door again

Re: kaboodle hinge fixings for doors and cabinets

That seems a bit odd, @Perry2. The video guides don't show installing the two additional screws, and, as you mentioned, you'd need to re-adjust the hinges afterwards. Let me reach out to Kaboodle this morning when they open for advice.

Many thanks for your patience.

Thanks Mitchell.  The guides are pretty good usually but they occasionally make a sweeping statement like this.

It says once adjusted to then fit the extra screws, problem being you have to remove the plate to really do it properly which then stuffs up the up/ down alignment which you've just perfected.

Re: kaboodle hinge fixings for doors and cabinets

Hi @Perry2,

I've spoken with Kaboodle, and you do not need to lugs on the front two holes. Pre-drill through the plate and screw into the timber. The hinges are already well secured with the rear screws and lugs, and the front screws are just an extra precaution.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
