How to paint an 80s kitchen?

Hi All, I'm wanting to update an old 1980s pink kitchen on a budget so have chosen to paint it. Can anyone advise me on the best type of paint & sealer for the breakfast bar? Also the cupboards?

Thank you.

Hello @Colourmyworld

Thanks for sharing your question about updating your kitchen with paint. Using paint is a cost-effective method of updating the look of your kitchen without having to take your cabinetry apart. The type of paint to be used on your kitchen depends on what material is on your door.

The technique to a fantastic paint finish is to prepare the surface as best you can and to use the best quality roller and brush your budget can afford.

If you have a laminated surface on the doors, I suggest using the Dulux Renovation Range. This is a very comprehensive paint system as it allows you to paint doors, benchtops and tiles.

But if you have a painted door set on standard timber, I propose looking at the Dulux Precision Primer in combination with Dulux Aquanamel for a tough surface finish.

@Colourmyworld

I’ve used both the Dulux Renovation Range and White Knight and didn’t see much difference between them.

My number one tip is to remove the cupboard doors to paint them. Clear your garage, find a whole bunch bunch of items to lay your doors on (I used all sorts - buckets, milk crates, old chairs) and get into it!

Both are great. This is a really rewarding budget project.  Good luck!
