How to repair burn mark on laminate benchtop?

The mark is approximately 17 cm in diameter and was caused by a hot pot. The surface is a light-coloured laminate.

The blackened part of the burn mark caused by the pot is somewhat uneven, while the rest just looks slightly scorched.

Re: How to Repair Burn Mark on Kitchen Benchtop

Hi @younghooL,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

That's a doozy of a burn mark. Unfortunately, I am not confident you are going to be able to fix this mark in a way that would completely remove all evidence it was there, but we can certainly give it a crack.

You could start by using a Mr Clean Eraser Pad Block to try and remove some of the colour.

You could also try a cream cleaner such as Gumption or The Pink Stuff

Giving it a light rub with some Super Fine Steel Wool could also help to remove some of the burnt colour. As you are using an abrasive, just be careful not to pierce through the coating.

The sections where the coating has melted through will need some extra attention. It won't look perfect, but filling them with PC-11 56g White Epoxy Paste and then painting them to match their surroundings will certainly help mask the burn mark.

If these options don't work, then I'd suggest contacting someone who specialises in benchtop repairs or consider replacing the benchtop altogether.

Allow me to tag @Dave-1, @DIYGnome and @Noyade to see if they have any ideas.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: How to Repair Burn Mark on Kitchen Benchtop

Good Morning @younghooL

Sorry, this one slipped past and I missed it on the weekend 😕

That looks like a pretty heavy duty mark, apart from the suggestions of @JacobZ  I really cant think of a way to bring back or mitigate it. 😕

Someone had a slight burn mark on a stone benchop (not a laminate one) and was succesful in removing it. They used some toothpaste, so if all else fails why not try that. It wont remove it but may reduce it.

Re: How to repair burn mark on laminate benchtop?

Hello @younghooL apologies for the belated reply, I have successfully removed various stains & marks from laminated benches at my workplace with little more than Bar Keepers Friend & an aerosol bleach spray product, the granules are effectively a mild abrasive (like Dave's suggestion) whilst the bleach is a liquid to facilitate the powder and provide additional stain leeching properties 👍

Not a 100% removal but a massive improvement will be achieved.
