Sagging kitchen shelf - how to reinforce?

The shelf in one of the kitchen cupboards seems to be sagging in the middle. The shelf is held by two screws on either side as shown in either photo. Any suggestions on how to reinforce the shelf or support it betters5.jpgs3.jpg

Re: Sagging Kitchen Shelf

If you have a thick back on the cupboard you could add some more shelf pins along the back, that is unlikely though if they were flat packs.

Simple temporary fix is to turn the shelf over, it is unlikely to be fixed in and should just be sitting on the pins.

Putting in a bracing piece along the length of the shelf, back is least in the way and center gives the best support.

Re: Sagging Kitchen Shelf

Hi @Dee2,

It's great to see you get a prompt and helpful reply from @Brad.

I'd agree with the methods he's described. Flip the shelf for a simple fix and wait until it sags back into the correct horizontal plane. Screw a piece of 42 x 19mm 1.2m Standard Grade Dressed Pine into the rear panel if it has a thickness to it or alternatively screw it directly into the shelf. As Brad mentioned you really need central support to stop the front sagging as well.

You might also like to consider purchasing a new piece of Custom Pine and have it cut instore to the same size as your existing shelf.

Re: Sagging Kitchen Shelf

Turn the shelf upside down and reduce the weight on the shelf.
