DIY magnetic flyscreen for security door

Hi team, 

I'm in a rental and I was imagining I could put a flyscreen on our metal security door. I saw some diy packs but they're only for windows. 

I was thinking of using 3M magnetic tape on door as it's painted and don't want to damage it. But I'm not sure what the next steps would be.

I'm afraid the 3M magnetic tape will not work if your flyscreen is aluminium. I suggest looking at the Pillar 160 x 200cm Black Magnetic Flyscreen Door Curtain and Pillar 2040 x 1000mm Link Screen Pleated Flyscreen Door. My best advice is to speak to your property manager or landlord before making any changes to the house entrance.

If the door frame is metal, then it will be aluminium which means anything magnetic won't stick. The Pillar 160 x 200cm Black Magnetic Flyscreen Door Curtain @EricL suggested uses an adhesive backed fine metal strip that sticks to 3 sides of the door frame. Then the curtain itself has the magnetic strip around its' edges. Not that it matters but, I could have this back to front. It does rely on the door frame being the right size for an exact fit.

There are several other styles like this one or this one for example that has a bar along the top. Though not designed to, but I have trimmed them to length and removed/trimmed one of the strips on the 2nd one. But still need to be fixed to the top of the door frame usually with screws.

If the frame is actually powder-coated then it would be safe to stick the screen to. But if it is painted, it's highly likely when time to remove it, that using a type with an adhesive backing will peel the paint off.

So again as per @EricL advice, its worth advice its worth speaking to your property manager or landlord first.
