How to fix damaged timber floor?

Hi, just discovered this in my living room. my son has removed all layers it seems and i just don't know how to fix this. i thought about doing a coat of stain and varnish ? i saw this one : https://www.bunnings.com.au/sikkens-100ml-pine-cetol-hlse-timber-finish_p1520477

We have been in this rental for 3 years and the house is very old, the floor wasn't in great shape to start with but i want to try to fix as best as i can.

My son was trying to colour in it when i discovered it.

Any advice please?

Re: Fix this floor

Hello @charli3

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your timber floor.

It appears that the original timber sealer has been stripped off. If you are after a temporary seal to protect the timber flooring from moisture contamination, I propose covering it with White Knight 310g Clear Gloss Squirts Spray Paint. Please note that this is a temporary cover to protect the exposed timber. It will not match the colour of your current floor seal, but it will protect it from damage.

In regards to your question about Sikkens 100ml Pine Cetol HLSe Timber Finish, this will work as well and provide adequate protection. But please keep in mind that it will not match the finish of your current floor.

Looking at the photo you provided, the floor gap filler also appears to be in need of an upgrade. In order to get a uniform finish for the entire floor area I suggest sanding it back to timber and removing the old gap filler. Reapply new gap filler, sand the floor once more and apply the new sealer.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide:

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
