How to loosen cord at the base of this table lamp? It is stuck. Trying to change B22 to E27 socket.
Base of table lamp
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @MaxBrenner. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about changing a light socket.
From what I can see, there doesn’t appear to be anything physically holding the cord in place at the base of the lamp, and there should be around 100mm of slack that can be pulled through to the top. If it’s stuck, it’s likely snagged somewhere along its routing inside the lamp. That said, changing a socket typically doesn’t require you to pull through more cable, as the terminals are usually in a similar position. As connecting a light socket is considered electrical work, it must be carried out by a licensed electrician, so I’d recommend reaching out to one to assist with your project.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am still struggling with this. There is insufficient give of cable from either the bottom of the lamp or the top where the Live & Neutral wires are showing. And I cannot remove the black holder at all. No amount of twisting turning jimmying will do it. Only other thing I can think of is if I can find a threaded E27 socket holder that looks like the threaded B22 socket holder I removed. Where can I buy that, please?
This is what I bought. It is not working because there is next to no cable give.
Hello @MaxBrenner
I suspect that there is some sort of clip that's holding the cable in place. My only thoughts are to take it to the next level and that is to start disassembling the body of the lamp. Perhaps through the disassembly you'll run into the clip that is holding the cable in place. As Mitchell has mentioned connecting a light socket is considered electrical work, it must be carried out by a licensed electrician, so I’d recommend reaching out to one to assist you with your project.
Let me call on our experienced members @CSParnell and @MikeTNZ for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

No need to. I've finally figured out why it CANNOT BE DONE. Should have from the beginning. Here's a picture of the lamp stand. See those 2 circles. Project SHELVED. I am looking for other easier straight line up and down lamp stands now. But THANK YOU ALL for your help and attention anyway.
G'day @MaxBrenner,

Split the lamp:
Unscrew at the arrow to disconnect lamp top from the base.
Then slowly pull the base away from the lamp top to expose some cable - stop.
Grip that exposed section with pliers and continue to pull the lamp base slowly way from the lamp top to expose some more cable - stop.
Grip the lamp socket wires and you should be able to pull through enough cable to connect the new socket.
Cheers
Just an observer @MaxBrenner
I'm thinking you have a pressure cable locking connection at the base. You'll need to release this if you ever want to acquire more cable length.
Good thinking...
