How to remove Gainsborough Square Passage Sliding Cavity Set?

My house was built a few years ago and has the Square Passage Sliding Cavity Set in some internal doors. I want to change one over to the privacy lock set but I can’t get the first one out! I’ve removed visible screws and it seems glued - how can I get it out without having to replace the whole damn door haha.

Re: help to remove gainsborough Square Passage Sliding Cavity Set

Hello @elora_rambles

Thanks for sharing your question about removing the Gainsborough Sliding Cavity Set. I suspect that the cavity set was installed while the door was freshly painted. This had the unintended effect of anchoring the cavity set to the paint surface. I suggest using a Trojan 6 In1 Multi Paint Scraper and sliding it in between the cavity set and the surface of the door and lifting the cavity set off. I recommend doing the same thing for the door puller at the front.

Please give this method a try and let us know if it comes off. My best suggestion is to lift carefully all around and not use too much force to avoid damaging the door.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

H Eric,

before seeing this I saw a tip to use a hair dryer to loosen the handle from the door and that worked a treat!

cheers

Re: help to remove gainsborough Square Passage Sliding Cavity Set

Hello @elora_rambles

That's a fantastic idea! Heat usually softens paint, I'm glad you got to remove the cavity set. Definitely a tip worth remembering.

Thank you very much for sharing that update.
