Loungeroom reno using paintable wallpaper

We are 2 widowed oldies and we thought we'd have a life and lounge transformation by doing up my friend of 30yrs debs loungeroom . The feature wall originally had a mural by Australian artist David Biard which we hated after emailing him and him saying it wasn't an important piece we got started.

Step 1

We started by selecting a lounge suite "The Jazz" in the "Teal Mason" colour, which helped inspire the entire palette for the Makeover. We then removed bookcases on either side of mantle and painted, attached tongue and groove to either side and painted them in taubmans  "Ace of spades".

Step 2

Deb put up a stunning paintable wallpaper on the feature wall to cover the ghastly mural which I then painted in Taubmans "Shimmering Sea"—the effect is truly eye-catching.

Step 3

To finish the top of the tongue-and-groove, we added a strip of pine moulding and sealed it with clear lacquer for a polished look. Then it was back to Bunnings to pick up a new TV table, indoor plants, and pots. We styled them on our besser brick shelves, which we painted in black and topped with pine boards.

Step 4

There's still a little to finish off, but we already absolutely love the space we've created. It’s been a fun and meaningful project, and we'd be so thrilled to share it.

Hello @melpag

Thank you for sharing the steps and materials of your loungeroom renovation project. My eye keeps getting drawn to the pattern on your wall, the shimmering sea colour you've chosen is just outstanding. It is an excellent transformation and gives your lounge a fresh new look.

Again, thank you for sharing such a wonderful project.

Afternoon @melpag

Oh wow... I was thinking my latest effort was swish  yours is up above it  How nice does that room feel now! Its a classic feel right down to the mirror in that frame  Thats a brilliant idea. I didnt realise it was a mirror at first.

That timber trim, it certainly brings something to the room and ties top and bottom together nicely.

This years competition will be interesting I think!

Re: Loungeroom reno using paintable wallpaper

Hi Dave,

Thank you so much for your lovely words — that really made my day! 😊 Your project looked fantastic too, so that means a lot coming from you. It's amazing what a bit of teamwork, creativity, and Bunnings inspiration can do!

We were aiming for a bit of a classic, coastal feel, and I’m glad that came through. That mirror was a bit of a lucky find, and the timber trim was a last-minute decision that really pulled it all together.

I agree — this year’s competition is going to be full of stunning entries. Can’t wait to see more of everyone’s work!

Cheers,
Mel
