Re: Paint crib

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fantastic to have you join us and many thanks for your question.

Unfortunately, we don't stock any paint which is classified Non-Toxic and suitable for painting a babies cot. I believe there are paints suitable for this purpose including non-toxic and 99% VOC free options. You might need to do some research through Google on where to find them.

A couple of discussions that have touched on this subject before:

Re: Paint crib

Mitchell is that correct that Bunnings does not stock paint for baby cribs ?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kris12. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question.

Bunnings does stock paint that could be used on a baby's crib, though nothing designed specifically for that purpose. However, @kjkishore asked for non-toxic paint. As far as I am aware, we do not sell paint suitable for this purpose, which also carries the classification of non-toxic. I have painted my baby's crib in Dulux Aquanamel as, although it does not qualify as non-toxic, I am quite happy that it is suitable for this purpose.

A toxic substance is something that can cause a negative health effect, even if it is minor. Any chemical can be toxic or harmful under certain conditions. Non-toxic paints are specialised and are made from natural raw ingredients such as plant and mineral dyes, natural minerals, natural latex and beeswax. They are generally not hard-wearing paints, and although you could paint a crib with them, I'm unsure of their longevity.

The level of volatile organic compounds within a product is part of what governs whether they can achieve a non-toxic rating. Many products around our homes, including chipboard, pesticide, aerosols, cosmetics, petrol, cleaner and deodorisers, cabinets, furniture, beds, carpets, rugs and wood floors, contain VOCs. Dulux has recently released their envirO₂ range of very low VOC paints. The entire envirO₂ range has <1g/L VOC. The VOCs in paint are most potent when applying the wet product as they off-gas into the air. Personally, unless it is water-based paint, I won't have my child around me whilst painting.

Many thanks for your feedback. I'll make contact via PM for further details.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
