Old Car.
Old man.
The lower mounting on the right hand side back passenger handle - shattered.
Disassembled it. The fiberglass repair(?) is not mine.
Previous owner?
Or how they made them back then? Dunno.
I do now know the plastic quality back then (2005) was awful...
The top mounting was intact...
Again more fibreglass.
I couldn't remove the stem without shattering it more. It was like pinching a violet crumble with long nosed pliers.
Eventually I managed to grab it from the underside by loosening the door panel.
I tided up the shattered end of the handle and managed to adhere a large washer cut to fit - over the large shattered hole.
This was how the door mounting then looked...
I played with cardboard templates to cut a piece of sheet metal to fit the above.
But not too big and be visible.
Nut rivet - 6mm steel variety.
Pre-drilled pop-rivet holes.
Carefully positioned and attached. In the end I only needed two points for a really strong grip.
Handle re-positioned and 6mm bolt attached using another smaller washer.
Done.
Feels very firm.
See what the future brings. Probably the top will fracture next. 🤔
Cheers!
