Re: Watering new turf

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, @DavidA1958. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about watering new turf.

For newly laid turf, the key is to keep the soil consistently moist so the roots can establish properly. Watering for four hours in the morning and four hours in the evening may be longer than necessary unless your soil drains extremely quickly. Generally, during the first two weeks, it’s best to water lightly but frequently, keeping the soil and turf damp without waterlogging, usually two to three times a day for shorter periods depending on your irrigation system. After two to three weeks, you can gradually reduce the frequency while increasing the duration to encourage roots to grow deeper into the soil. By four to six weeks, watering once a day or every second day should be sufficient, focusing on deep watering rather than just wetting the surface.

I'd certainly look at splitting that watering and do one to two hours in the morning and one to two hours at around 2pm. Eight hours of watering per day would leave the soil extremely waterlogged.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
