How to add fence extension to sloped Colorbond fence?

Hi team,

Hoping to extend the current fence height to allow for increased privacy. Plan will be to add cables then grow star-jasmine or the like.

Any tips on how to maintain the slope-line, and if possible for someone who isn't super handy!

Appreciate any info

Cheers

Will

Re: Fence extension to sloped colourbond fence

Hello @william_wallace

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about adding a fence extension.

An easy way to extend your Colorbond fence is to install a Matrix 1800 x 450mm Charcoal Ferns Fence Extension. I suggest having a quick look at this guide - MATRIX Fence Extension. It shows you how the extension can be put together and installed on any fence. For a more robust extension for your Colorbond fence, I suggest looking these discussions - Attaching Colorbond fence extension - Page 3 by @Baron and Fence extension for extra privacy by @Shannon.

Here are some discussions that will help:

If you are thinking of putting a wire guide on your fence for plants to go onto, I suggest looking at the Training climbers to screen a fence by @royq

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply.

I was also thinking of planting some hedging rather than fence extensions. Do you have any advice on good hedging plants?

Appreciate any info.

Cheers

Re: How to add fence extension to sloped Colorbond fence?

Planting a hedge in front of your Colorbond fence is a great alternative, @william_wallace, as it softens the look of the fence and provides natural privacy. Some excellent hedging choices would include Lilly Pilly (Syzygium or Acmena varieties), which are fast-growing and dense, Viburnum for lush coverage, Murraya (Mock Orange) for a compact and fragrant option, Photinia ‘Red Robin’ for its striking red new growth, and Pittosporum ‘Silver Sheen’ or ‘James Stirling’ for a light, modern look. You might like to have a look at our guides How to choose a screening plants and How to choose hedging plants, for more detailed advice on plant selection, spacing, and maintenance tips. Please let me know if you have any questions.
