Re: smoker ventilation

Hi @laurat1989,

Thank you for your question.

Is the issue that the smoke is getting stuck inside the outdoor area because of the blinds?

Is it possible to wind them up while your smoker is in use?

I imagine opening up as much airflow as possible is going to be the best way to go.

Maybe you could sit a Ryobi 18V ONE+ Compact Fan RCF18 on the smoker, so the smoke is blown away from the house while it is in use.

If you had a leaf blower, that might be an option to get the air moving when it gets particularly smoky.

Allow me to tag @Noyade, @Dave-1 and @JoeAzza to see what ideas they have.

Re: smoker ventilation

Hey jacob. The problem is we don't want to have to open the blinds as we have a wood fire and it's very cold where we live. Keeping them up isn't an option. It's fine over summer.

Re: smoker ventilation

Hi @laurat1989,

You could try running something like this Builders Edge 150mm x 3m Flexible Duct, from the smoke outlet to the outside of the blinds. You could attach it to the outlet using a GRUNT 25mm x 2m Pull Tie Down Strap and then remove it when not in use.

They are used in rangehoods above stovetops, so they should be capable of handling the smoke.

Let me know what you think.

Re: smoker ventilation

Hello @laurat1989

Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend installing a Dynabreeze 450mm Industrial Wall Fan on the other side of the smoker so that it blows the smoke away from the house, doors and windows.

If you need further assistance, please let us snow.

Re: smoker ventilation

Good afternoon @laurat1989

Being a smoker its going to be hard to mitigate the issue in an enclosed area but challenges are good...

First idea

Can you move the smoker towards the screen so there is less distance to travel if you cut an opening in the screen?

Second Idea

Its along the lines of @JacobZ and @EricL's but a little more industrial type deal.

Using 3 of brackets mounted on the wall

Then this is mounted on top of them 300mm x 3m Metal Form Tube

Plus a Fan Dynabreeze 450mm Industrial Wall Fan or a smaller width one but you are wanting enough air to push the smoke, not draw it from the smoker at the end above the smoker so there is around 700mm distance to the tube.

The end of the tube goes through the screen (I would put some kind of course mesh over it so things dont come back in when not in use but still allow good air flow)

If the tube from the smoker gets warm (I dont think it would but to be cautious) then I would have a seperation distance around the tube where it goes through the screen.

Re: How to add ventilation for an outdoor smoker?

Hi there,

What's the situation above the smoker?

That external wall will have a eve so you could vent into that or out the roof.

Cheers
