We’re starting to refresh our deck and noticed this white pipe. Does anyone know what’s is for and is there something I should do around it before closing the deck? Ta.
If you follow the direction of it leaving the house is there a drain or does it go to the front of the house etc.
Could just be your sewage pipe from the house?
I’ll need to trace it further. My guess is that it’s a sewage pipe since there’s an easement heading out to the back of the house. I’ll probably need to get some fill around it seeing that part of it is currently suspended.
Hi @alantis,
Greetings and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community.
Do you have a copy of the building plans?
They will usually tell you the general location of services such as sewage and stormwater pipes. It seems likely that it is sewage, but it could be worth checking.
I don't think there is any need to touch it if you're just replacing the decking boards. If it was getting buried, you should put some drainage gravel around it, but otherwise, I'd just cover it up.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
Would a sewer line be deeper?
I have an old house - 700 mm deep at the lowest point.
Newer building/plumbing code these days?
I did try and do some digging and it looks like it’s a storm water pipe. I’ll drop in some draining gravel below it I guess.
