Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

At Bunnings this morning.

I have used these handles on large steel doors.

But was wondering if they would suffice as a vertical hand hold for someone stepping up through a doorway?

Or should I be looking in the bathroom section - Aisle 64?

Cheers.

Re: Handle/Rail Questions.

Hi @Noyade,

Assuming you are looking at the Goliath T25 x 335mm Stainless Steel Grab Handle, then as long as you mount them to the framing using suitably strong fixings, I can't see any issue using them as a vertical handhold.

Do you know what sort of framing you've got around the door?

I'd say a couple of 50mm timber screws should do the trick, assuming you have a timber-framed home.

Let me know what you think.

Re: Handle/Rail Questions.

Thanks @JacobZ

Yes - wood framing.

But in the end we went with an 'evekare' product with an auditory sensor and LED lights. Amazing.

With a somewhat elaborate 'extension' to accommodate the anchoring plates.

Cheers!

Re: Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

G'day Mate,

Once again too late I was going too suggest this.

I asked this question in another discussion, how come you have Artist like sketching skills !!!

I recently purchased this.

Along with Sketchbook Pro.

They say it's takes a while to get used to looking at one spot while actually drawing at another spot.

Looks like it's going to take a while for me to achieve that 😄

Cheers

Evening Alan @AlanM52

Sorry mate - your link above doesn't work for me.

"I asked this question in another discussion"

Sorry - I missed that.

No artistic skills as such, just doodling. Worked as a draughtsman years ago.

Crazy as it sounds I loved drawing aircraft as a kid - along with making Airfix kits - and in particular, Luftwaffe aircraft.

Go figure.

Re: Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

Evening... it was a Temu link and they have unusually long URL's which seem to stuff up.

I also did the kit thing and with the tech knowledge I had already acquired at that time (electronics hobby) I was able to build RC aircraft but had a flight problem (LOL) because I only had the Tiapan 2.5cc diesel for control line but needed the larger 3.5cc R/C diesel to get them off the ground with a heavy payload (bulky dry cell batteries) and fortunately mum came to the party with extra funding (pocket money). They were good days... for everything.

Cheers

Re: Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

Evekare is a good product. The locking mechanism is great, but the spanner that comes with it is a little small and flimsy.

So I decided to make a replica with a little more muscle from 5mm plate.

Feels much better to use and I made it longer for more turning power.

Interestingly the mechanism is similar to a bicycle collar remover.

I tried it - but the hinge is too bulky.

Re: Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

I positioned another Evekare hand-rail this morning.

Very different hardware to the last one.

The screws are so large (6mm diameter) they do not fit the pre-drilled holes. You have to 'screw' them in with a firm hand or use an impact driver.

And the countersunk head is so large it interferes with the flange fitting.

Odd? Or have I missed something here?

Evekare on the right...

Re: Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

Thanks for that feedback @Noyade.

That does sound a bit odd, and I wouldn’t have thought it was the manufacturer’s intention for the screws to interfere with the flange fit. It’s possible these screws are slightly out of spec for what the kit is designed to accommodate. I can certainly pass that feedback on to them so they’re aware of the issue.

Re: Goliath grab handle for a doorway?

Thanks mate @MitchellMc

As you can see, my narrow screw heads are just on the edge.

All good in the end. Works well and looks good.

I like their products. This was the far right rail...

Cheers.
