Something functional but bold to hold my son's collectables.
You can substitute the character for something more applicable to your household.

Using the sheet of 18mm MDF i marked out the basic box and drawer front. Some adjustments were made trying to minimize waste by fitting the cuts to one piece of MDF board.
Sketching out your character to also cut to size.
Basic sketches to get a idea where the shelf would be placed.
I wanted to give the illusion of the character holding the shelf.
This evolved as i went.
Next carefully cutting out the individual pieces with a jigsaw.
Make sure to use appropriate PPE.
The back of the basic box was included at the base of the character as shown.
All 4 sides were fastened together using pocket screws and PVA glue.
I highly recommend the Kreg Jig. https://www.bunnings.com.au/kreg-pocket-hole-jig-310_p0202873
This makes joining simple straight edges very neat.
Painting and attaching the shelf supports.
Acrylic paint pens and a few sample pots from Bunnings did the trick.
The shelf supports come with there own hardware so installation is quick and easy.
Adding the legs to the base and a simple draw handle for the front.
The drawer has no runners but i may come back to revisit that later.
The whole project was coated in a clear gloss to add to the durability.
Hi @OG_Bee,
Having grown up watching Dragon Ball, DBZ and DBGT, I absolutely love what you have created here.
The level of detail in the shape is incredible, especially Goku’s hair. That would have been seriously challenging to cut out, and you have absolutely nailed it.
The colours and shading are spot on as well. I honestly wish I had the artistic skill to pull something like this off.
It also took me a moment to realise that Goku is actually holding the glass shelf, which is such a clever and creative touch.
Your son is very lucky to have such an awesome and unique way to display his collectibles.
Thank you for sharing, this is honestly awesome.
