Home exterior makeover using paint and render

Did an Exterior Makeover of our home and I feel it was totally work it!

Steps

Step 1

I started by painting the windows black. Taped all the sides and used a Wagner spray gun. They were originally brown.

Step 2

Step 3

I hired someone to work on the render. The house is high and this wasn't something I could handle alone. I bought Davco render from bunnings and managed to do some parts myself. It was a good learning process.

Step 4

I then used taubmans exterior paint to paint the eaves.

Step 5

It was then time to paint the exterior. I used dulux Paint in the color Hog Bristle in fine texture and then used a roller to roll it.

Step 6

Finally I painted the fence. This was also a big job but the Wagners fence sprayer made it much easier

Step 7

Sharing a before and After so you can see the difference. Still need to paint the driveway. Hoping to save up to put pavers and tile the entrance.

This looks fantastic. I'm considering something similar - do you mind me asking how you sourced your renderer? Did you just. google local businesses? I'm getting a big variation in the quotes I've had and I'm wary of pulling the trigger on such a big cost.

Hi @Ivymantled,

Hopefully, they will respond shortly.

Trade quoting can oftentimes be difficult to compare because while the end goal is the same, the approach and materials used can differ. Googling the rendering businesses in your area would be a good start. You can also use a service such as HiPages or Airtasker to find tradespeople in your area. Look for businesses with positive reviews and examples of their previous work.

I would hope to see a bit of depth in the quote. Look for them to clearly outline things like the type of render and materials, estimated labour time, area size, and number of coats. If there are details on most of these key factors, it would be a pretty good start.

Make sure each quote covers the same scope so you're comparing like-for-like, and check if prep work, scaffolding, and clean-up are included.

You should then review the contractor's experience by searching or asking for past work examples. A reputable tradesperson would have no issue showing you their past work.

I think the main thing is not to just go for the cheapest — weigh up the overall value, including quality and reliability.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
