How to fix bedside table trim?

I bought bedside tables from Marketplace, with the intention of doing them up and painting them. Unfortunately the previous owner cut part of the top and bottom trim, it must have been to fit it into an awkward spot. How do you recommend I fix it? Just something to make it look similar, doesn't have to be perfect.

Re: How to fix bedside table trim?

Hello @Daisy86

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your bedside table.

I propose placing a ruler in front of the timber moulding profile and taking a photo. I then suggest visiting the store and seeing if there is a similar profile to the one your cabinet currently has. If you happen to find a similar profile, I suggest removing the cut section on the table and replacing it with a new piece.

The other option is to replace the entire timber moulding with a new one. This will save you the effort of having to look for a compatible set.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @AlanM52 and @JoeAzza for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: How to fix bedside table trim?

Good Afternoon @Daisy86

As you have a straight cut edge you could use a piece of paper and a lead pencil and holding the paper against the flat edge just mark the profile/shade it so when you go instore you can have a search for the closest type.

As an alternative if you cannot find a similar edged profile, Keep an eye out when people are getting rid of stuff near rubbish day. A lot of times I have seen the same type of drawer set (I use to have one) and you could potentially manage to grab a piece that matches.

For a third option, Maybe remove the base rails/edges and replace with a style that is in store as @EricL has suggested. Then you could reuse one section for the top edge?

Hi @Daisy86,

Disappointing that happened to dampen your enthusiasm but don't stress Daisy we should be OK.

Replace with new length of trim.

Rather than cutting try and pry off the trim.

Then cut off a piece and visit Bunnings, I think Aisle 6.

That's odd looks like someone added that ?... I would get rid of it.

Looks OK but as @EricL suggested could you take a profile photo.

Re: How to fix bedside table trim?

Hello @Daisy86 ,  it’s good to see that you are recycling this piece of furniture. I have done siimilar  to your bedside drawers, I removed the legs and re painted the unit, I agree with all the other post re removal of moulding  and going to Bunnings and make it your own style, or you try to add pieces of timber and shape to the same moulding, however you will need some different type of woodworking tools to complete the shaping.

i have added  a link to my bedside drawers, that I modified.

Thank you for your advice and for attaching the link to the insert mould. I tried looking for these last night, and they never came up. I was looking up the wrong name. Whoops!
