Ensuite upgrade without big price

Ensuite upgrade without big price

We renovated our ensuite to bring it up to the rest of our house. We had a terracotta and cream tiled space, it was very dated.

It boasted a huge single shower, with a half walled off toilet and super tiny single vanity.

The ensuite floorspace is as big as master bedroom itself, and was wasted with layout.

So to optimise money, as well as utilizing a huge area, we completely opened up the space by taking down the walls, keeping the plumbing where it was, just extending it.

This maximised floor area, and let so much more light into the space. we removed two windows and custom designed one huge window to allow more light. We turned single shower into double, and single vanity into double basin. Such as easy way to create a "Double ensuie"

It now feels so much bigger and brighter. Costs were kept to minimum by self demolition, and not having to move plumbing.

  • We love the Industrial theme, its created a real luxury room that now complements updated Master bedroom.IMG_2211_Original.jpeg

Materials

We took down walls and guttered room back to nothing.

This took alot of manual labour, along with large skip bin.

Once back to nothing we used Davco waterproofing range to waterproof entire room, even walls.

We purchased all new tap wear and two shower heads, along with "coolabah" back to wall toilet, from Bunnings. we re used corner spa.

The white wall tiles, glue and tools were also purchased from Bunnings.

Heat light/fan (Tastic) and down lights (Bunnings)

Tiles, Vanity, shaving cabinets  and shower glass were outsourced locally. we had to get custom made window to span the distance.

Tools

Huge amount of of elbow grease!

Paint brushes/rollers for waterproofing

Tiling accessories - Bunnings bucket for mixing glue, screads, grout & grouting tools/sponges.

Wet/Dry Ozito Vac (Bunnings) Such a great buy.

Steps

Step 1

1. Strip all wall & floor tiles, Take wall + half wall down.

2. Remove corner spa, remove shower glass, vanity, toilet, all           fixtures.

3. Pushed shower wall back, to increase to double shower.

4. Lined walls with. new Villa board (Bunnings) fixed roof where wall was bought down. Top coated all joints before next step.

5. Waterproof floor and walls, after plumber hooked second shower outlet, changed toilet configuration to fit back to wall toilet.

6. Also added pipe/drainage to allow for vanity to be upgraded from single to double sink.

7. Added extra power points and lighting.

8. Then we tiled entire space with choice of 3 different tiles, to create industrial feel.

9. We then had new shower glass fitted, put strip drain and new tap wear throughout.

10. Added double vanity & shaving cabinets, put spa back in then added lighting, tastic then painted roof.
