How to change water temperature for shower tap?

Hi!

I've recently moved into a new place and finding the shower water gets too hot. I have tried searching online how to adjust but the videos I've found look different to what I have.

The videos seem to have an attachment where it can easily be lifted up and moved to the right or left to adjust temperature. The tap I have seem to not have that.

I have attached images of my Mondella tap below. I have also considered maybe lowering my gas water heater tank to a lower number but unsure if that will make a difference.

Any tips will be appreciated!

Thank you 😊

Hello @hajae

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your shower mixer.

The Mondella shower mixer you currently have does not have a hot water limiter and can't be adjusted. In the interest of health and safety, I suggest engaging the services of a plumber. They will be able to adjust the hot water temperature in your home. I recommend not changing any other settings on your hot water system as it might overheat the water and cause injury.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric

Re: How to change water temperature for shower tap?

Hi @hajae,

You’ve got a mixer tap, which is designed to let you control water temperature by adjusting the balance between hot and cold water. Typically, the handle swivels from left to right—turning it one way increases the hot water and the other increases the cold, allowing you to set your desired temperature. This variable adjustment is from pure cold water coming out of the shower head to full hot water. In between that is a temperature you'd typically shower at.

If your tap doesn’t move side to side or doesn’t seem to be mixing properly, it’s possible the mixer cartridge inside the tap is faulty. That cartridge is what controls the blending of hot and cold water, and if it’s damaged or worn out, you may find the water stays too hot or won’t adjust properly. In some cases, the entire tap might need to be replaced, especially if it's not functioning as a proper mixer.

While you could try lowering the temperature setting on your gas hot water system, this isn’t usually necessary if the plumbing and mixer are working correctly. The system should already be set to a safe and suitable temperature. If the tap can’t regulate that temperature properly, then it’s more likely a mechanical issue within the tap itself.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation! I believe this is out of my scope and will engage a plumber for help 😊
