How to extend the height of a shower drain?

How to extend the height of a shower drain?

I am about to retile an old shower and the old floor drain will be too low for the new tiles once the old mosaics are removed. The substrate is concrete. Is there a product which will push into the old drain pipework once the grate is removed to increase the height and not have to cut out the old shower outlet?

Hi @pwmonger1

There  are drain extentions made for you purpose with different height of extentions , an  example of one of them  is as follows

Have  fun just check  your drains diameter for  good fits.

Re: shower drain extender

Hello @pwmonger1

Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend having a look at the PVC Slab Adaptor. These PVC couplers are meant to slide into existing pipework concreted into place. It can be cut down and adjusted which will allow you to slide in a new floor waste.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: shower drain extender

Thanks Eric, that's exactly what I'm looking for

Re: shower drain extender

These look like exactly what I’m after but still a little concern as I maybe wrong but I’m look at either using a shower pan over tiles or I may need to remove tiles not sure yet but on shower pans don’t they have a screw on fitting at the drain? Or is that only the top piece.? I know I have to remove the step in part as shower pan is around the same size as where the step and screen is attached. I will add some pictures but I’m hoping once the step is removed the pan will fit without removing any other tiles, as wall to edge is 900x900. PS at some stage I will have to do floor as well just not sure on my approach to that yet if I tile over the top or try and find in Australia floating PVC floor tiles they have in the states. The first picture is the floor drain.

Re: shower drain extender

Hello @downunder

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us.

From an installation point of view, it would be better to remove the tiles and start fresh. In this manner you won't have any lingering doubts about any of the tiles failing and coming off. In regards to your shower pan, it will come with installation instructions including how to install the proper drain for it, odds are it will still require a puddle flange to operate correctly.

Just a friendly reminder that any plumbing work will need to be completed by a registered plumber for safety and compliance.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
