40 mm basin hole but too small for 40 mm drain
I have a 40 mm basin but I can't put a 40 mm drain on it because the original basin drain hole is a bit too small. I have to use a 32 mm drain with overflow. The problem is because theres is a gap of about 4mm between the 32 mm drain and the wall of the 40 mm basin hole, water from the overflow run into the bottom of the sink.
1. Does it matter if some water run into the bottom of the drain. I reckon when it rises it will flow out through the overflow.
2. Is there an adaptor to make the 40 mm into a 32 mm drain hole?
Thanks
Hello @davidong,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your plug and waste.
Just a friendly reminder that any plumbing works must be carried out by a licensed plumber for safety and compliance.
In order to get a positive seal at the top and bottom, I propose using Selleys 300g Clear Wet Area Waterproof Silicone Sealant.
To convert the 32mm back to standard 40mm, I suggest using a Holman 32mm x 40mm PP M&F Threaded Adaptor along with some FIX-A-TAP 12mm x 8m Blue PTFE Thread Seal Tape.
Any water passing through the overflow hole of the basin should be diverted to the overflow hole of the plug and waste.
