How to fix broken basin spout Mondello Resonance?

IMG_2651.jpeg

IMG_2650.jpegBeen trying to work out a fix for this broken spout. It seems to have just come loose from the base and now water leaks out the join when the tap is turned on. Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe some type of sealant or glue on the join? There doesn’t seem to have been any glue before, just metal on metal. I did buy a new tap set thinking I would just replace the whole set however I’m having trouble unscrewing the black plastic nut on the underside of the old spout (at T-junction) as it seems to be too tight. Also it seems the tap doesn’t come in brushed anymore, only chrome.
Short of calling a plumber is there anything else I could try?

First time homeowner here so never done this before. Thanks!

Hi @jmo_syd,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. I trust you'll get loads of help and inspiration for all of your projects from our wonderful members.

I would be replacing the tap. Would you like to add a photo or two of underneath the sink so we can see what you are working with there and suggest the best course of action for installing the replacement?

Hi @jmo_syd and @Jason

I was only wondering with the spout - is there a grub screw and O-ring missing?

Hello @jmo_syd

I suspect the same thing as @Noyade, is there a small hole along the spout that looks like it could be a spot for a grub screw. Can you please look carefully and see if there is a hole at the base of the spout arm. If there is, odds are this is where the grub screw was located and has come loose. Please investigate and let us know if you find a tiny hole at the bottom.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to fix broken basin spout Mondello Resonance?

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply. There is no hole or oring on The base of the spout.  There is a hole for a grub screw on both of the taps but not on the spout. I have also checked the new tap I bought as a replacement and this also does not have a hole or grub screw. Does seem strange to think it’s just been metal on metal but it must have been and the tap was working fine, no leaks, for about nine months.

Re: How to fix broken basin spout Mondello Resonance?

Hello @jmo_syd

That is indeed a different type of spout that has been machine fitted. I'm not sure it can be repaired. If it can't, your only option is to replace it.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
