How to replace a ceiling light cover?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to replace the cover on my ceiling light (photo attached), but I’m having trouble figuring out what will fit. The fitting has a metal ring with a diameter of around 40cm, but I’m not sure what kind of cover would be compatible with that.

I’ve looked online, but I’m still confused about what I should be looking for.

Has anyone had a similar setup or know what kind of replacement cover would work with a ring like this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: How to replace a ceiling light cover?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @lee8. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about replacing a light cover.

In most cases, finding a replacement cover that’s compatible with your existing light fitting can be tricky unless you’re able to get one directly from the original manufacturer. Even if you find a cover with the same 40cm diameter, it may not fit properly because each manufacturer tends to use their own system for securing the cover—whether it’s clips, screws, or twist-lock mechanisms.

Unfortunately, there isn’t really a universal standard for these fittings, which makes mixing and matching covers quite difficult. For that reason, many people opt to replace the entire light fitting instead. There are plenty of modern and affordable options available, and once you’ve chosen a new one, you’ll just need a licensed electrician to install it safely for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
