How to replace mixer tap cartridge?

Hi,

My bathroom mixer tap (vanity unit) started to leak quite a lot. I have replaced various washers in taps before but never in a mixer tap. I found various videos and discovered how to get into the tap via the grubscrew in the handle, and I got everything off without too much difficulty and got down to this:

the plastic area with those three triangular-ish holes inside appears to be fixed to the tap. I also measured the internal diameter of the threaded area above it... then I went and bought the "fix a tap mixer tap repair kit incl. 35mm flat cartridge"... but it seems too fat to fit in there. How do I measure for the appropriate part, or is this something I can't easily get a part for. Happy to measure whatever else I need to measure. Thanks so much as usual.

Re: Mixer tap cartridge replacement

Hello @jonathan_d

I suggest putting the cartridge back together including that plastic piece that is currently in your tap. Technically nothing should be left inside you tap body once you remove the ceramic cartridge. I've placed an image below to give you an idea of what it looks like when fully assembled. I suggest bringing your old cartridge with you to the store and placing it end-to-end with the new cartridge. You'll immediately see if the size, shape and button positions are the same. You can even double check with your vernier just to be safe.

Once you are satisfied with the comparison, make sure to keep the docket just in case you need to exchange it. The next steps are to reassemble the tap and test to make sure it works.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
