How to replace plastic toilet cistern?

Hi, can you help me identify which cistern model can replace these old cisterns I have? There are 3 of them in my home; they are approximately 25 years old but I don’t know the brand/model. They are plastic and have aged!
I don’t think it’s a straightforward process to replace the whole toilet suite due to the older style. Also, is the Bunnings installation service available for this? Thanks so much!

Re: which cistern do I buy?

Hi @Rannah,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

As these are link suite toilets, where the cistern is mounted on the wall and is connected to the pan via a flush pipe, not close-coupled toilets, where the cistern is mounted on top of the pan, you aren't massively limited in your choice.

The two main things you will need to check are that the volume of the cistern is at least similar and that the flush pipe, which you can see below, is a compatible diameter with the cistern.

I would estimate your cistern to be around 6l, but you could check this by measuring the dimensions and doing a volume calculation.

Most flush pipes are 50mm in diameter. Assuming yours is the same, you will be able to use any of the following cisterns.

We offer a Toilet Installation service, which you could speak with your local store's Special Orders desk about. It is not exactly the same as you are having a cistern replaced, not the whole toilet, but I imagine they could assist.

Alternatively, if you are in Sydney, you can use the Bunnings Services Marketplace to arrange the job. If you are not in Sydney I would suggest using a service such as Hipages or Airtasker to find a plumber who could do the job for you.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: which cistern do I buy?

hi Jacob thank you for all this information. I did have a look at these in store recently. I have one question about the pipe cover that covers the pipes between the bottom of the cistern and the toilet seat, it doesn’t seem like these three cisterns come with a pipe cover, my existing pipe cover price is yellowing and old so I would need to replace that, but I couldn’t see if a pipe cover came with toilet seats either, So if I need.,, is this a separate item I can purchase? Or should I look at a combination cistern and seat cover solution as they seem to include the pipe covers Thank you

Re: which cistern do I buy?

Hi @Rannah,

It is possible to buy a replacement flush pipe cover, such as this Estilo PVC Cistern Link Plate, or this Haron 260mm Wide Cistern Link Connector.

You can also buy replacement toilet seats that come with the link plate, such as this Haron White Toilet Seat With 217mm Link.

Though, as you are planning on replacing the cisterns already, it is probably easiest to just grab a cistern with a seat.

Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
