Is my back-to-wall toilet a P-trap or an S-trap?

Is my back-to-wall toilet a P-trap or an S-trap?

We live in a converted warehouse apartment building. The toilet is on the third floor of the building.

See photos attached. It is a Cotto model. I do not know which one.

We are doing a renovation but I would like to know if it is P- or S-trapped, so I can make orders prior to the floor being ripped up.

Thank you!att.4gjBFs97TA_poLvSSQD4n1xKm4RUgE-o9W9QYV3uPac.jpgatt.ASKv8-ubb2VQ37TGMBDrtMGteIF20keIdmhD-4mpJPQ.jpgatt.QjA9txblRufvZzs0j5aZFfOu0bUACi1G97mgIOakfeQ.jpgatt.ZqTAS5ANs6GDay98QFD8aqqmKspQycOIyNKXkElunj0.jpgatt.EwguA5ALlpd1qiLqnDvLGh2CI8mbsHdDwCKIEu3ivis.jpg

Re: Is my toilet a P-trap or an S-trap?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @danielryan. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about toilets suites.

Most back-to-wall rimless toilet suites, like the one you have, are designed to be both P-trap and S-trap compatible. They typically use a universal connection kit that allows the outlet to be configured either horizontally (for P-trap installations) or vertically (for S-trap installations).

That means from the outside, there’s no reliable way to tell whether your current setup is an S-trap or P-trap, since the trap connection is concealed behind or beneath the pan. The only way to confirm would be to check the outlet direction once the toilet is removed or the floor is opened up.

If you’re planning ahead for your renovation, you can safely shortlist replacement back-to-wall toilets that are universal trap compatible, as these can be installed either way depending on what’s discovered once the old unit is lifted.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @danielryan,

I thought I'd also mention that you might like to take a look at the Bunnings Toilet Installation offer, as it could save you some time and effort during your renovation. It’s a convenient way to ensure the new toilet is fitted correctly.
