Where do I need end panels when installing laundry cabinets?

Kia ora all,

We had our laundry room floor redone a while ago and are finally getting around to sorting cabinets.

We have a space of approximately 1.5m between an existing walled-in shower at one end and a freestanding toilet at the other (allowing for sufficient space around toilet) in which to install the laundry cabinets and front-loader beneath a benchtop.

We're retaining existing plumbing, so plan is as follows ( along the wall, right to left):

- 600mm cupboard cabinet with sink immediately adjacent to the shower wall

- front loader washing machine

- 300mm cupboard at the toilet end

I'm wanting to carry the benchtop over waterfall-style at the exposed end.

Where in this arrangement do I need end or filler panels? Wall end as well as either side of the washer? Do I need to put one between the cabinet and waterfall bench, or is the bench ok to cover that exposed end?

Thank you!

Re: Installing laundry cabinets

Hi @FleaK,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

You need end panels for any exposed sides of base cabinets. This is because they sit on levelling feet, which creates a void beneath the cabinet. The end panel and the kickboard are there to cover the void beneath the cabinet. So, you would need an end panel on any exposed sides of any base cabinets.

If the cabinet is butting into a wall, it doesn't need an end panel, as the wall would cover this gap.

The waterfalled benchtop would also cover the far end, so there's no need for one there.

In this situation, you would only need an end panel on either side of the washing machine.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Installing laundry cabinets

Hi @FleaK,

I just had a quick play around with the Kaboodle's 3D planner (if you are in NZ - 3D planner) to confirm what I said was correct.

Without the end panels, this is what it would look like.

With them, this is what it would look like.

This is obviously a much more finished look.

I just thought it might be worth seeing it, so you can confirm I am understanding you correctly, and so you can see a physical example.
