Circle cutting template, without drilling a pivoting point for a plunge router/trimmer

I already have a circle cutting template for cutting circles with a router, however, I needed a template that I don't have to drill a pivoting point, leaving a small hole to be patched up.

I found many ideas on youtube and came up with is one I made. using double sided tape for the pivoting point.

I will be using it to make a circle based planter stand in the near future.

Adjustable sliding pivot point.

Install double sided tape to base of 65mm x 19mm diameter timber circle.

I made a center marking tool from a 5/16 inch screw, ground down to a point to locate the pivot point of the circle

A small shaft used to locate a second 65mm and 19mm circle timber pivot.

Installed a measuring tape (double sided tape)  to cut the required circle radius.

Hi @JoeAzza

Can you provide a detailed description of the gig?

I tried something a few weeks ago - but failed.

Any chance the double-sided tape can fail when you're routing?

I haven’t tried it yet @Noyade
I will test it this weekend.

I’ll send details as soon as I can

Hi @JoeAzza

So glad to see you posting projects again. This little handy trick will have to go in my bookmarks as I will eventually be cutting a circle for my projects. Thanks for sharing this very useful technique for cutting circles.

The 'tool' on the left cuts a better circle. 😕

Re: Circle cutting template, without drilling a pivoting point for a plunge router/trimmer

Hi @Noyade and @EricL

As promised, I have just completed a test cut of a circle with my new template, I must say I am very pleased with the result.

Plan A, I used double sided carpet layers tape, I pre lined the area with painters blue tape, I did this just incase the double sided tape didn't work.

Plan B,  I would have then tried super glue onto the taped area.

Plan C, Would be to use hot melt glue/gun.

Plan A worked successfully for me.

I have attached photo's of the sample circle cut out, made from 12mm Mdf timber.

Good afternoon! @JoeAzza

Thank you Joe for doing this - I will digest the design.

The weather here is not permitting an outside build - yet.

The double sided tapes - brands?

Cheers

Graeme.
