Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Does this service have a cost?

Bunnings stores may charge a small fee for timber cutting. The price is:

  • Timber docking - First two cuts are free, and 50 cents per additional cut

  • Panels and sheeting - First cut is free and $1 per additional cut.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Re: parricke board cut to 82 mm

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @vlad.

We rely on our expertly trained saw operators to use their best judgement in determining whether it's safe to proceed with a cut or not. In this case, it was determined that they could not cut multiple thin strips from your selected panel whilst also maintaining the operator's safety. I apologise that we couldn't meet your cutting needs on this occasion.

An alternative option would be to complete the required cuts at home with a circular saw. This handy guide on getting to know your circular saw will be helpful.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Buying timber in linear metres at Bunnings

Hi Mitchell,

I am planning to build a deck and have decided to use 90 x 19mm L/M Decking Merbau SpecRite Pre Oiled KD Select - Bunnings Australia

Would you be able to advise me what are the lengths available in store for this product?

I am looking at the configuration of 5.1 * 2.85m.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Buying timber in linear metres at Bunnings

Hello @Sunda

Thanks for sharing your question about Merbau Decking Panels. The 90 x 19mm L/M Decking Merbau SpecRite Pre Oiled KD Select - Bunnings Australia come in various lengths starting from 1.8 up to 5.7. The panels in between increase in length by 300mm. For example, the next length up from 1.8m would be 2.1, 2.4, 2.7 and so on.

Depending on how you will be laying the deking panels down, the ideal is to have the minimum amount of timber waste for the entire deck. If you are laying the panels on the long side the closest panel size would be 5.1m. Please note that your measurements will be affected by the type of border you decide to put on your deck.

Here is a link to a deck panel calculator: Deck Calculator

Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your deck assembled and ready for use.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: cuting a length of 2.4 m 1800 mm 18 mm into 2x 530 mm & 2x 580 mm

Hello @Swiftfox1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about cutting timber.

Those measurements you've mentioned can be cut at the store as they are in the cutting tolerance of the shop saw. What project are you building? Any updates you can provide would be much appreciated. If you need any advice or information, please let us know. We will be more than happy to provide you with assistance.

We look forward to hearing all about your projects and plans around the house and garden.

Re: bunnings will you cut my moldings i buy for my window

Hi @MarleyJ_Aus,

You could potentially use our service to cut timber lengths if you're very precise in your measurements and plan. Our saw can perform the most basic of cuts to reduce timber length. It's a cut that is made at 90-degrees to the timber. We can not make mitred 45-degree cuts or angled bevelled cuts through the thickness of the boards. I've put together an image below to illustrate.

In your images, the bottom baseboard has some mitred/tapered ends and in the image labelled "Machine I need", they are performing a mitre cut. If you want to make a mitre of bevel cuts, you need to consider purchasing a compound mitre saw. These cuts can also be completed with a circular saw or handsaw and mitre box

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hey wondering if you are able to cut roofing panels such as

https://www.bunnings.com.au/lysaght-1-8m-steel-zinc-custom-orb-corrugated-roofing_p0910316

if not how do you recommend one cut them to desired size

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hi @davidbruce2411

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's magnificent to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about cutting corrugated roofing.

Unfortunately, only timber is allowed to be cut on-site at the store. If you wish to cut Lysaght 1.8m Steel Zinc Custom Orb Corrugated Roofing. I suggest using either tin snips or use an angle grinder with a cutting disc rated for steel. One other option is to use a nibbler rated for cutting sheet metal. Please make sure to use gloves and safety goggles when cutting steel.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
