Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Does this service have a cost?

Bunnings stores may charge a small fee for timber cutting. The price is:

  • Timber docking - First two cuts are free, and 50 cents per additional cut

  • Panels and sheeting - First cut is free and $1 per additional cut.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hi, do you have any details about minimum distances to the edge for cutting panels? Also, what is the tolerance?

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @askvictor. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question.

There is a minimum cut width on our saws of 300mm. For more information about the specific cuts that can be performed, it's best to have a chat with a helpful team member at your local store. They'll be happy to show you how to get the best usage out of your selected boards.

We like to accommodate for a tolerance of plus or minus 5mm. However, you'll find in most cases that the cuts will be well within these tolerances.

What are you building? I trust our community members would love to follow along with your project.

Please let me know if you need further assistance or have questions.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hi, can Bunnings cut a outdoor timber framing length (purchased there) into a degree angle like the attached photo? Thanks

Unfortunately, that type of cut would require a saw that can rip timber down the middle. Our stores are equipped with docking saws that crosscut the timber. The easiest way to achieve that style of cut would be on a table saw or with a circular saw if it didn't need to be precise.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hi,

I've been looking under store details and services for Bunnings stores in the inner Melbourne area and can't find any that say they cut timber/sheets? I know I did it somewhere reasonably close by several years ago but I can't for the life of me remember where. Does it go by a particular name in the details?

Cheers

Warren

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @WarrenDB. It's wonderful that you've joined us and many thanks for your question about our timber cutting service.

Most of our stores offer a timber cutting service and all of those cut timber and timber sheet products. There are some exceptions for what they can cut. If you'd like to let us know the product you need cut and your approximate suburb, I'd be happy to let you know the closest store that can do that for you.

Wood Cutting

I’m looking to create my own computer desk, and I was wondering if Bunnings would be able to cut this board down to 1900mm x 750mm. I would be getting this from the Rydalmere store in Sydney.

Re: Wood Cutting

I'm also trying to create a computer desk but I'm using this one... Bunnings don't have the equipment to cut this one down.... So was wondering if there's a cheap and safe way to get it cut to custom size...

You might like to discuss your cutting needs with a team member in-store. As @Manishmahajan has mentioned, generally, these panel type products are not suitable to be cut on our saws. It's a relatively easy task to cut down a board with a circular saw, and I'd be happy to assist as you do so yourself.

You should find these guides useful:

Please let me know if you need further assistance, and we look forward to seeing your new computer desk once completed.

Re: Wood Cutting

It's great to have you join us @Manishmahajan. If you were looking for a budget solution to having this panel cut down, I would suggest the Ozito 185mm 1300W Corded Circular Saw. With this saw, the guides above and our assistance, you'll have your computer desk ready by the end of the weekend.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We're here to help.
