How to reduce heat and light from polycarbonate roofing?

My carport is very bright and hot underneath. What can I do to reduce the amount of heat and light?

Good points. I think I may use some shade cloth stapled underneath. I will let it belly a bit so there is some movement and can use a blower to remove leaves, dirt etc.
