OSB kitchen cabinet doors

IMG_6258.jpg

We made these door fronts using some off cuts of OSB leftover from the wall paneling. We were a little unsure how they might turn out, but are really happy with the end result.

The bench top is pine laminate panel was purchased from Bunnings. The big butchers block/sink cover to add a little extra bench space is just the sink cutout that we couldn't let go to waste either.

Re: OSB kitchen cabinet doors

Hello @DIYgals

Those OSB doors look fantastic and the door handles neatly complement the overall finish. Did you put a clear coat on top of the OSB doors or leave it as is?  Were the pine leftover pieces from another project? It looks like you've doubled up on the OSB board, what is its actual thickness now. I know it's a lot of questions, but any extra information you can share about the door assembly would be highly appreciated by our members.

Thank you for sharing this awesome project.

Re: OSB kitchen cabinet doors

Thanks @EricL,

Yes, we also put an estapol finish on the doors to protect them a little bit from any spills etc.

The pine pieces in the back framework were also leftover, the idea was to attach the hinges in the solid timber. But I miss calculated where the top and bottom hinges would go and they ended up going into the OSB 🙈. Oh well, it has worked out fine.

The OSB is 12mm thick, and the hinges needed to sit around 13mm deep, hence the need to double it up so the hinges didnt go all the way through.

The cabinets and hinges are just standard from IKEA, and I just copied the dimension of the door fronts which you purchase separately anyway. You can do this with any flat pack cabinetry.
