How to cover mesh gap in old house above window?

I have a gap above my window where old mesh is currently covering and let in a lot of cold air. Trying to work out the what to cover this with. It's an old apartment unit

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your window.

I propose measuring the width of your window and see if the Bastion 1200 x 600 x 30mm XPS Multi Use Foam Board is enough to cover its gap. If the insulation panel can fit or is too big, I propose trimming it with a Craftright 18mm Snap Off Knife. You can then push the foam board all the way against the mesh to cover it and prevent cold air from flowing in.
